Christopher had a history of poor health having suffered from pleurisy in 1894, yellow fever in 1899 and malaria in 1899 and afterwards.
His military records show he suffered a bout of influenza in Britain before leaving for France. Once in France he experience a bout of bronchitis in 1915, more influenza in 1916 followed by an attack of colitis. Given these episodes it is maybe not surprising he succumbed to pneumonia in 1917.
