Robert Hood Brechin

RankSecond Lieutenant Robert Hood Brechin
MedalsBritish War Medal, Victory Medal
RegimentSeaforth Highlanders 5th (Sutherland and Caithness) Battalion, attached 1st Battalion Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders
Military Service

Sergeant in the High School OTC.
Enlisted as a private (220914) in the Glasgow Highlanders (9th Battn Highland Light Infantry) in September 1914. One would have presumed Brechin served in France with the HLI but his Medal Roll Index Card does not record any service at the front until after he received his commission. Nor does it show him as entitled to the 1914-15 Star which one might have expected if he had served in France.
Commissioned into the 5th Seaforth Highlanders on 7th December 1915.
Sent for further training to Cairo in May 1916 and attached to the 1st Battn Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders, 81st Infantry Brigade, 27th Division stationed on the Salonika front in August 1916.
On the 30th September the 81st Infantry Brigade assaulted and captured the Karajakois (the fortified villages of Karajakoi Bala and Karajakoi Zir, now jointly known as Monokklisia) and RH Brechin was killed.
