No specific details are known of McEwan’s service in 6th HLI. This
was a territorial battalion stationed in Glasgow at the outbreak of war.
The battalion landed in Gallipoli on 3rd July 1915 and was almost
immediately involved in the last British attempt to capture Achi Baba
starting on the 12th July. McEwan was probably wounded during the
fighting on the 12th or one of the following days but the exact
circumstances are unknown.
