Circumstances of Death

Longton, along with Lieut. William Burrell and Lieut. Ellis, was drowned in Loch Ewe when the motor boat Morna overturned.

Buried 27 Nov 1914.

His body was brought to Greenock by a patrol ship and thence by train to Glasgow. The coffin was taken to St Mary’s Cathedral where a short service was held before burial in the Necropolis.

In June 1911 Eric Longton travelled to America to work for Dayton Coal and Iron Company in Cincinnatti. It is not known when he returned to Britain.
