Military Service

When the Volunteer Force was reorganized into the Territorial Force in 1908 Taylor already held the rank of Captain which suggests he had been in the 9th Volunteer Battalion of the Royal Scots for a number of years.

There is a suggestion in a newspaper obituary that Taylor served in the Boer War and it is certainly true that some members of the 9th Volunteer Battalion of the Royal Scots did go to South Africa but it has proved impossible to show that Taylor was one of them.
Very few details of his military service are available. He went to France in February 1915 with the battalion and was wounded during the Battle of Ypres on 23 Apr 1915.
